Thanks Rache. I resonated with this because last weekend someone keyed my car all the way around. it’s purely superficial, but I am embarrassed to drive around in it. I am trying to let it go and forgive the person and think of it as a lesson for me, to not care about what other people think. wish me luck!
Nalika, I saw a pic of that and it made me really sad. I’m so sorry. You don’t deserve that..and it’s maybe confusing trying to discern the why. At least that’s how I felt when my car and home were egged three times. It’s not about you. You are beautiful, caring and loved. They can’t touch that.
“I also see the act of not covering up my gray as an attempt to break the socialized notion that gray hair means old. After all, I wasn’t old at age 14 just because I had gray hair!”
This is so true! I’m in a grey hair group in Facebook - basically women supporting other women OF ALL AGES - in doing exactly what you’re doing (well, not the green hair part, but we all have our moments of weakness 😂), and I’m constantly seeing posts from women in their 20s and 30s who are embracing the grey for a variety of reasons. It took me longer to get to where you are. I tried once and hated how it looked, went back to coloring, and then finally the pandemic and shutdown provided me the opportunity I needed to let it the greys grow out, at the age of 48, in the comfort of my own home. And what do you know - I actually like it!
At 40, I gave myself the gift of never again wearing shoes that hurt my feet. At 50, I gave myself the gift of refusing to hold my pee. If I’m a minute late to a meeting because I took care of my body, so be it. In some ways I think this grey hair movement is an act of feminism. I mean… would a MAN try on shoes jn a store and say, “Wow, these really are uncomfortable and will probably cause me skin to blister - but Imma buy them anyway because they look so good.?” I think we all know the answer to this.
Raise your salt and pepper head high! You were beautiful in those raven-haired photos of your youth and you’re more beautiful today with your years of wisdom shining bright.
The color is just in time for the release of part two of “Wicked”. Enjoy the magic!
I’ll lean into that Deb!
I bet your students are "green with envy" that their teacher is so hip & cool! :)
oof. Mr.Reis joke! Actually the kids are pretty down with it but I think my colleagues are confused!
